Beijing is home to a great number of colleges and universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University. Owing to Beijing’s status as the political and cultural capital of China, a larger proportion of tertiary-level institutions are concentrated here than in any other city in China. Many international students from Japan, Korea, North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and elsewhere come to Beijing to study every year. The schools are administered by China’s Ministry of Education.
The number of foreigners wanting to study in China has been rising by approximately 20% annually since the reform and opening period began. This makes China the world’s sixth-largest study abroad destination.
China’s economy is improving more quickly than had been predicted, i.e. sizable economic growth by 2015 has been predicted as opposed to 2050.
